Note from the President's Desk
I want to extend a warm welcome from the Board of Directors of the Gamma Mu Chapter. My name is Dr. John Whitcomb and I am the current President of the Gamma Mu Chapter. We are gearing up for a wonderful upcoming year of events.
Some background, I am a retired Navy Nurse Corps Commander after 26 years of service. I am an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing. I served on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) 2007-2010 and Board of Directors for the Certification Corporation of AACN 2008-2010. I served as the Specialty Advisor to the Surgeon General (Navy) for critical care nursing 2007-2009. I support the learning, knowledge, and professional development of nurses committed to making a difference in health worldwide and “advance quality nursing education that prepares the nursing workforce to meet the needs of diverse populations in an ever changing healthcare environment”. I have demonstrated this as evidence by publications in scholarly journals such as Nursing Research, Advances in Nursing Science and Critical Care Nursing Clinics of North America. I have presented locally, nationally and internationally in such places as Belfast Ireland, Yokosuka Japan and Montreal Canada. My commitment to lifelong learning has led to many opportunities where I have been able to make a difference for nursing worldwide. I am a Fellow of Critical Care Medicine (FCCM) and became the 3rd nurse in South Carolina to hold this distinction. It is an honor and privilege to serve as your Gamma Mu Chapter President.
I also encourage you to explore the STTI web site at http://thecircle.nursingsociety.org/Home/ and become connected with “The Circle” which is a new means of communication with Gamma Mu Board members, chapter members, national STTI news and events. I look forward to serving you in the upcoming years and do not hesitate to send me an e-mail, firstname.lastname@example.org and let me know what exciting things you are involved in at school or in your facility.
John Whitcomb, PhD, RN, CCRN, FCCM
