Wellness Services Offered at Joseph F. Sullivan Center

The Joseph F. Sullivan Center is an academic, nurse-managed health center.  The programs provided at the Center integrate classroom education with clinical service learning opportunities under the supervision of qualified advanced practice nurses and allied health professionals. Acute Care Services:
Provide services for treating common acute/recent onset illnesses and problems such as:
  • Treatment of sinus, ear, throat, & respiratory infections
  • Treatment of acute stomach or colon problems
  • Contact skin disorders (poison ivy, poison oak, rashes)
  • Minor lab tests for strep throat, pregnancy, hemoglobin, blood sugar
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Eye infections & seasonal allergies
  • Insect & small animal bites
  • Skin diseases (chicken pox, shingles, ringworm)
  • Skin infestations (lice, scabies, chiggers)
  • Splinter & toenail evaluation
  • Some Sexually Transmitted Disease testing & treatment
  • Minor wound & injury evaluation

Comprehensive Physical Exam Services:
Health history: including past and current conditions, vaccines, previous screenings and test results. This is an excellent opportunity to bring up any and all health questions or issues. They will also ask you about your lifestyle including exercise habits, general diet, smoking habits, sleeping habits, stress level, and family and work life. This discussion will also likely include a discussion of activities that may put you at risk and/or personal safety measures that can protect you from accidents or serious harm.

Physical examination:  including your height, weight, body mass calculation, blood pressure, vision, hearing, and a comprehensive physical assessment of all major systems (for example: ears, throat, thyroid, heart, lungs, abdomen, reflexes and skin), as well as others that are not part of a routine physical examination (nervous system, reflexes, pulses). Men will receive a prostate exam and women a pelvic exam (pap smear available for an additional cost).  Laboratory testing for hemoglobin and urinalysis. Special pricing of $50 between 10/1/11 - 11/21/11.

CU4HEALTH:
Health Risk Appraisal: including your height, weight, waist circumference, blood pressure, and a blood analysis (cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose, hemoglobin, and more). They will also evaluate your overall wellness rating, current fitness level, personal heart health, eating habits, and how you cope with stress.  You will also be provided with recommendations for preventative exams and preventative actions.  A follow-up counseling session will be scheduled with a trained health counselor who will review your results and help identify areas to improve long term health risks. This program is offered for Clemson employees, spouses, and retirees whose primary insurance coverage is through Clemson University and is one of the following plans: SHP, Companion HealthCare, CIGNA HealthCare, and additional special pricing for other groups. Price is $15.
