University of Wisconsin-Madison—Assistant/Associate Professor—Potato and Vegetable Crop Pathology (Posted:  5/23/08)
  • Summary:  The University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking candidates for a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position (70% extension; 30% research) for an Assistant/Associate Professor—Potato and Vegetable Crop Pathology in the Department of Plant Pathology.  Exciting opportunities exist for collaboration with colleagues in basic and applied realms of plant biology, microbiology, biotechnology, and related disciplines within the department and across the college and university.  Experience with potato and vegetable diseases is not a requirement.

  • Duties:
    1. Will be expected to develop an innovative and externally funded, extension and research program that improves the management of pre- and post-harvest diseases affecting potatoes and vegetable crops while protecting soil, water, and other natural resources;

    2. Will work closely with colleagues in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, county-based Extension faculty, crop consultants, fresh market and processing crop growers, vegetable processors and members of the agribusiness community;

    3. Will mentor graduate and undergraduate students and support the department’s teaching mission.

  • Qualifications:
    1. Must have a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology or related discipline;

    2. Must have a strong foundation in the principles and concepts of plant pathology and relevant research experience;

    3. Must have a effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to use modern delivery technologies to reach diverse audiences;

    4. Must have a positive attitude for teamwork, including the demonstrated ability to lead and motivate others.

West Virginia University—Assistant Professor--Ornamental Horticulture (Posted:  6/4/08)
  • Summary:  West Virginia University is seeking candidates for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position for an Assistant Professor--Ornamental Horticulture.  The position is located in the Division of Plant and Soil Sciences in the Davis College.  Start up packages for research are available that include graduate assistantships, summer employment and operating expenses.

    1. Teach landscape management and plant identification courses;

    2. Develop an independent, extramurally funded research program in ornamental horticulture;

    3. Focus of the research program could include residential landscaping, sustainable or organic landscapes, or other related areas.

Rutgers University—Assistant Professor—Ornamental and Nut Tree Breeding (Posted:  6/4/08)
  • Summary:  Rutgers University, located in New Brunswick, NJ is seeking candidates for a full-time, 12-month (100% AES), tenure-track position for an Assistant Professor—Ornamental and Nut Tree Breeding in the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences.  The position is located at the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station.

  • Duties:
    1. Provide leadership in developing an innovative, productive, forward-looking research program in ornamental and nut tree breeding, with special emphasis on species of value in the Northeast Region of the United States;

    2. Will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas such as breeding, ornamentals, and tree crops.

    1. A PhD degree in plant science/plant breeding or closely related discipline and experience teaching plant propagation techniques;

    2. Specific experience with the evaluation of nut tree and ornamental germplasm for productivity, aesthetics, and pest resistance is desired.

Delhi State University of New York—Golf/Plant Science Faculty Member (Posted:  5/23/08)

Mississippi State University—Assistant Extension Professor—Horticulture Specialist (Posted:  4/17/08)
  • Summary:  Mississippi State University is seeking candidates for a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position (100% Extension) for an Assistant Extension Professor—Horticulture Specialist.  The position is located at the Delta Research & Extension Center in Stoneville, MS.

  • Duties:
    1. Will develop a Delta-wide horticultural extension program that complements and is part of the statewide horticultural extension effort.  Extension efforts will be focused on the development of educational and applied research programs for commercial vegetable production as well as consumer horticulture.  Areas of emphasis include commercial vegetable production, individual turf/lawn, and consumer horticulture, including the Master Gardener program;

    2. Development of programs for county level Extension employees and collaboration with other scientists within the university will be considered an important aspect of the position;

    3. Develop Extension programs to assist commercial vegetable producers;

    4. Develop consumer horticulture Extension programs that can be delivered through workshops, publications, web sites and county level Extension employees;

    5. Develop in-service training classes for county level Extension employees;

    6. Departmental, college, and university committee service will be expected. 

    7. Work closely with other Extension specialists and researchers both at the Delta Research and Extension Center and throughout the Mississippi State University system to develop viable horticultural programs for the Delta region and Mississippi in general.

  • Qualifications:
    1. An earned doctorate in Horticulture or closely related Plant Science discipline is required;

    2. Candidates who are ABD will be considered;

    3. Experience in horticultural production, experimental design, statistical analysis, and modem agricultural production practices are required;

    4. Ability to develop recommendations from research data, excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with producers, faculty, extension staff, researchers, and the general public are required;

    5. Must demonstrate the ability to secure extramural funding to support programming efforts.
