"There are two lasting bequests we can give our children:
one is roots.  The other is wings."
~Hodding Carter, Jr.~

The HORT class takes a break before the children come out.

Kathy shows the students pictures of plants that the beans and rice

come from. Beans, rice, and noodles were used to put in the rainstick

to make the sound of rain.

"There is a garden in every childhood, an enchanted place
where colors are brighter, the air softer, and the morning
more fragrant than ever again."
~Elizabeth Lawrence~

Two of the children are ready to put the "rain" into the sticks. Many of

the children put several handfuls into the rainsticks. Some may have

even put too much, but the students had a lot of fun.

"As an avid home gardener and a mother of adopted children, I'm often struck with the parallels between these two absorbing
lifetime occupations.  Plants and children......

.....We their nurtures provide the best home and the most growth-nurturing care that we know and are capable of at the time.  But in the end, they both are going
to do what they need to do."
~Helen Chesnut~

Kathy helps one of the students with putting the nails in the rainstick.

Many of the students needed help with this large task.

Brave Aaron holds the nail so the student

can hammer it into the "Rainstick".

“What nature delivers to us is never stale. Because what nature creates has eternity in it.”
~Isaac Bashevis Singer~
