Landscape Development Group, Inc.—Landscape Project Supervisor
  • Summary:   The Landscape Development Group, Inc., located in Piedmont, SC, has a position opening for a Landscape Project Supervisor.  The company is a 9-year-old, growing company with an average of 35 employees.  The company provides landscape and irrigation installation and maintenance.  Their work is 95% commercial and 5% residential.

  • Duties:
    1. Supervise landscape installation crews;

South Carolina Botanical Garden, CU Campus

  • Summary:  The South Carolina Botanical Garden, located on the Clemson University campus, has several part-time positions available.  The openings are in grounds maintenance, the nursery/greenhouse and also in facilities (which includes buildings, vehicles and construction).

Fockele Garden Company—Installation and Maintenance Gardeners
  • Summary:   The Fockele Garden Company, a small, well-established company providing landscape design, installation, and maintenance services located in Gainesville, GA, has position opening for Installation and Maintenance Gardeners.

  • Duties:
    1. Installation of stonework, drainage, water features, garden structures, and plantings;

    2. Care for sophisticated gardens featuring a wide variety of plants--from perennials and bulbs to lawns and ground covers to shrubs, trees and vines.


  • Qualifications:
    1. B.S. degree in horticulture or landscape design or equivalent experience;

    2. Prior positive experience with general landscape equipment and maintenance practices is helpful but not necessary;

    3. Must have knowledge of and ability to carry out fertilization and pest control and annual and perennial flowers, and ornamental shrubs and trees;

    4. Must be self-motivated, hands-on, and posses the ability to direct seasonal labor;

    5. Must have a valid drivers license and pesticide license;

    6. Must have ability to coordinate and implement landscape design plans;

Yeamans Hall Club—Horticulturist
  • Summary:   Yeamans Hall Club, located in Charleston, SC, has a position opening for Horticulturist in the Grounds Department.

  • Duties:
    1. Landscaping duties in homeowners’ yards and throughout property surrounding golf course, grounds maintenance, and invasive plant species removal;

    2. General monitoring of yards and other landscaped areas (clubhouse, cottages):  mow grass, trim shrubs and trees, and applies pesticides, insecticides, and fertilizer under the supervision of the grounds manager;

    3. Inspects yards before homeowner arrival and performs any necessary tasks;

    4. Performs yard duties on request by grounds manager or homeowners;

    5. Monitors irrigation clocks and heads throughout the year;

    6. Repairs equipment associated with irrigation;

    7. Work with grounds maintenance crew when needed (ex. mulching and over seeding yards);

    8. Safely operates equipment such as mowers and tractors for various grounds needs;

    9. Assists Grounds Manger when necessary;

    10. Works with grounds manager and homeowners to design, plant, and maintain outdoor beds;

    11. Assist in greenhouse plant care and propagation.


  • Qualifications:
    1. Must have comprehensive knowledge of horticultural principles and practices;

    2. Must have Comprehensive knowledge of trees, flowers, shrubs, turf, cultivation, pruning and other aspects of plant propagation and care, including the use of common insecticides, fungicides and fertilizers;

    3. Must have knowledge of insects, parasites and diseases which attack trees, shrubs, flowers and grass and of the chemical and biological methodologies for controlling such attacks;

    4. Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures and instructions;

    5. Must have a valid drivers license and pesticide license;

    6. Must have the ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge;

    7. It is normal club policy to administer background checks and drug tests.

Snee Farm Country Club—Assistant Superintendent
  • Summary:   Snee Farm Country Club, located in Mt. Pleasant, SC, has a position opening for an Assistant Superintendent.

  • Duties:
    1. Will be responsible for assisting the superintendent and equipment technician with the following: training new employees, fertilizer and pesticide applications, irrigation adjustments and repair, management of staff, and supervision of projects.

  • Duties:

  • Duties:

North Carolina Arboretum—Temporary Gardener

  • Summary:   The North Carolina Arboretum, located at the University of North Carolina in Asheville, NC, has a position opening for a Temporary Gardener.  This is a seasonal temporary position working with The North Carolina Arboretum Gardens Crew.  This position will focus on both container and in-ground seasonal garden displays.

  • Duties:
    1. Include watering, grooming, fertilization and weeding of garden displays;

    2. General garden duties such as mulching, pruning, litter removal and insect and disease control will be assigned as necessary.

  • Qualifications:
    1. Completion of high school or equivalent combination of education and experience;

    2. Prior public or commercial gardening experience preferred;

    3. This is a hands-on position requiring a high level of physical effort.  Tasks will frequently call for climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking and hearing, and repetitive motion;

    4. Must be expected to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects;

    5. Must have visual acuity sufficient to operate machines, motor vehicles, and heavy equipment; and to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.

North Carolina Arboretum—Temporary Grounds Worker

  • Summary:   The North Carolina Arboretum, located at the University of North Carolina in Asheville, NC, has a position opening for a Temporary Grounds Worker.  This is a temporary position projected to last 10 months with possibility of an extension.  The primary focus of this position during the growing season is turf maintenance.  Equipment operated may include tractors and mowing, sweeping, blowing and outdoor vacuum equipment.  Off-season duties may include snow removal.

    1. Mowing;

    3. Weed management;

    4. Equipment operation;

    5. Roadwork;

    6. Debris management;

    7. Litter removal;

    8. Some light construction work and some chainsaw operation.

    3. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly in performing regular duties.

North Carolina Arboretum—Weekend Program Assistant

  • Summary:   The North Carolina Arboretum, located at the University of North Carolina in Asheville, NC, has a position opening for a Weekend Program Assistant.  The position is located in the Education/Visitor Services Department of The Arboretum.  This is a temporary position expected to last at least through the Fall.

  • Duties:
    1. Assist with weekend guest services and programming;

    2. Greeting and providing information to visitors;

    3. Assist with program set-up and presentation;

    4. Participate in program planning and coordination;

    5. expect to spend considerable time standing and/or walking between destinations;

    6. Monitor indoor and outdoor exhibits and facilities.

    1. Graduation from high school required;

    2. Customer service experience and progress toward a degree in horticulture, environmental education or a related field is desirable;

    3. Working knowledge of common office computer software is preferred;

    4. Expect to spend considerable time standing and/or walking between destinations;

    5. Must be willing to work both indoors and outdoors.
  • Salary and Benefits:  $9.00/hr.  (HOURS:  Saturdays 9 AM to 6 PM; Sundays 11 AM to 6 PM).

North Carolina Arboretum—Education Outreach Coordinator

  • Summary:   The North Carolina Arboretum, located at the University of North Carolina in Asheville, NC, has a position opening for an Education Outreach Coordinator.  The Coordinator will begin on a variable 30-40 hour per week work schedule.  Depending on the timing and location of programs, a given workday may begin as early at 7:30 AM and last for up to 9 hours.  This is a temporary position.

  • Duties:
    1. Will be responsible for curriculum delivery and development, material preparation, customer service, registration, supply preparation, and care of live animals;

    2. Will assist area partners with educational presentations, set-up and takedowns;

    3. Will set up, operate and trouble-shoot exhibit and audiovisual and computer equipment used in outreach activities by using a van outfitted with exhibits and presentation equipment, a primary base of operations for these activities will be which the Coordinator will prepare and drive to program locations;

    4. Will employ SQL databases and report generation software as well as spreadsheets and other standard office software to maintain records and prepare reports and presentations;

    5. Will assist with program promotion and relationship cultivation;

    6. Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors under a variety of weather conditions.

  • Qualifications:
    1. Four-year degree in a natural science field or education from an accredited institution is required, along with experience teaching environmental science topics to large and small groups, both youth and adult;

    2. Customer service experience and progress toward a degree in horticulture, environmental education or a related field is desirable;

    3. Must have some knowledge of animal husbandry including native and exotic reptiles and amphibians;

    4. Must have a working knowledge of SQL databases and report generation software, along with spreadsheets and other standard office software

    5. Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license with no judgments or fines for the past five years, and maintain a satisfactory driving record;

    6. Must have a familiarity with some of the following equipment:  carbon and non-carbon filtration systems, aspirators, microscopes, slide preparation, audiovisual equipment, compasses, soil probes, temperature probes, water and soil quality chemistry tests, geologic specimen testing equipment, small mammal traps, aquatic and terrestrial insect collection equipment, snake hooks, Biltmore sticks, tree core samplers, GPS units and plant presses.
  • Salary and Benefits:   $11.50 hour, negotiable depending on experience (HOURS:  Variable, 30-40 hours per week.  Includes weekends.  Hours may increase with the growth of the program).
