Personal Reaction

My reaction to the sustainable actions I took is positive. I did not have any trouble turning off the water when I brushed my teeth, cleaning the lint trap on the dryer, using plastic containers to store food, using a basin to wash dishes, and recycling. The recycling project did not go the way I wanted, but I am glad I could recycle. Big recycling bins the size of the green trash cans were supposed to be delivered to the first floor of my dorm; instead I received small classroom size bins. I was informed the bins were delivered, but the students’ did not want them on the first floor. I guess the students’ did not want the bins blocking their fraternity sign. However, the classroom size bins were placed on my hall.

I thought no one would put anything in the recycling bins I placed on my hall, but people are actually using them. I received compliments about the recycling bins. One student said he was glad to have the bins and he felt bad about throwing away cans. I think some people have in their mind that recycling is not for them or that it is for the environment and earth freaks; wrong, it is for everyone. If we all took the time to recycle, I think we would have a good conscience and not feel guilty about throwing certain materials away. Even though I know this already, I learned things don’t always go the way they are planned. The big recycling bins I wanted, I did not get, but things still went well.

I think I would take on some sustainability actions again. A suggestion to anyone wanting to start a recycling program or habit, whoever the person(s) is that promised to supply the recycling bins, keep hounding them until they deliver the bins to you.
