What is TigerPool?
TigerPool is a student labor pool of Clemson University students that are currently attending courses. The program was developed to assist departments with short-term employment (typically three weeks or less). The Office of Human Resources will coordinate all project assignments and requests by providing student workers possessing the appropriate skills to that of the requesting department.
What are the benefits of TigerPool?
The TigerPool student labor pool program schedules are flexible including short-term assignments, hassle-free hiring, and minimal cost to the departments. Program coordination, assignments, payroll, and follow-up are provided by the Office of Human Resources and Administrative Services. The initial hiring process is handled by the Office of Human Resources.
What types of jobs will be offered?
The types of job(s) available will depend on the needs of departments submitting "jobs/projects" for assistance. Because job availability is dependent upon departmental requests, our office has no method to gauge the number or types of projects or how often a student will be selected to participate. These temporary assignments (usually less than 3 weeks in duration) are not to be used as a method for gaining permanent assignments or, in the case of graduate students or graduate assistantships, within a department.
Students participating in the TigerPool program have a variety of skills so the program can accommodate virtually any request. Common requests include filing, copying, packet compilation, spreadsheets, accounting functions, computer-related and programming, web page development and updating, presentation development, and lab assistance.
We understand that many students would prefer to know an approximate number of assignments for which they may be called. Unfortunately, we have no method for making such a determination. To date, the TigerPool program has received approximately 400 applications from students. In order to solicit students who have submitted applications, a listserv has been developed.
How are jobs assigned?
As project requests for students are received from departments, an e-mail is distributed via the listserv. The e-mail outlines the project and solicits interest in that particular assignment. Interested students respond via e-mail and assignments for interviews are made on a first come, first serve basis. Departments select students based on the interview process.
The departmental application provides spacing for comments and you may certainly indicate your preferences regarding student(s) you prefer to work in your area.
Departments will receive information regarding the student worker(s) assigned to their department (name, prior work experience, rate of pay, etc.) within 24 hours if the Office of Human Resources makes the selection. If departments want to interview the TigerPool student and make the selection for the assignment, departments should allow for at least 48 hours to have the student(s) assigned to a position.
If departments have specific students they wish to utilize through the TigerPool Program then; the department will need to include the student’s name on the TigerPool departmental request. The student must complete a TigerPool application, if one is not already on file in the Office of Human Resources. The student’s name should be sent to the Office of Human Resources to complete the TigerPool paperwork prior to the assignment.
Who is the supervisor of the project and program?
The Office of Human Resources administers the TigerPool Program. Students will be notified of individual project supervisors as the assignments are made via departmental requests.
Can an individual department hire a TigerPool student to work solely for their department and not through TigerPool?
Unfortunately, a department may not hire a TigerPool student to work solely for their department once the student is obligated to work for the TigerPool program. Once Human Resources has made arrangements with a department via an Application Form for Departmental TigerPool Work Assignments, the student is not eligible to work for a single department unless through TigerPool. Please address specific questions to the program coordinator.
Can students stay with one employer or do they have to rotate?
The work assignments will, for the most part, be project type work and will have a limited time frame in which the work must be completed. Occasionally, we have follow-up requests for repeat students.
How do time sheets work?
Students will receive a time sheet from the Office of Human Resources when they complete their initial TigerPool paperwork after being assigned to a job. Students and their supervisors will “sign off” on the time sheet for the hours that the students have worked. The students will turn in the completed time sheets to the Office of Human Resources. Students may view their pay stub on-line. Students will need their University ID and password in order to do so. To view instructions on viewing the stub, please visit http://www.clemson.edu/cubs. Direct deposit is mandatory for all TigerPool students.
Upon completion of work assignments, an approved time sheet and IDO will be submitted to the Office of Human Resources for the payment process.
How do students apply for assignments?
In order to ensure consistency, the Office of Human Resources requests that ALL interested students complete the online application form and forward the form along with their résumé to the Office of Human Resources.
What is the Orientation process for TigerPool students?
Students participating in the TigerPool program will complete orientation prior to starting an assignment to ensure awareness of the processes. Orientation may be viewed on-line at the Office of Human Resources webpage. (general information and frequently asked questions)
What is the Orientation process for participating departments?
Departments may view the TigerPool program information via the Office of Human Resources Webpage. Upon request, the Office of Human Resources is available for departmental presentations regarding the TigerPool Program.
Can the student have multiple TigerPool jobs at once?
It is unlikely (though not impossible) students would be involved in more than one concurrent assignment. Our priority is to keep in mind the primary focus of the student is education.
How much time should departments allow Human Resources to find a student for an assignment?
It is highly recommended that departments give a minimum of three days notice to the Office of Human Resources to find a TigerPool student for an assignment. However, if a minimum of three days is not possible, it is recommended the Office of Human Resources is allowed to select the student for the assignment.
How do departments provide funds for payment of TigerPool assignments?
Departments will provide funding based on an invoice generated from the Office of Human Resources and departments corresponding with approved time sheets. Departments are charged an administrative fee of $1.00 an hour according to the account number provided on the Departmental Application (work request) form. Students are keyed into Clemson University Business System (CUBS) as hourly student employees. Students will be paid according to the approved time sheets for any hours worked.
How will the Office of Human Resources evaluate the TigerPool Assignments?
Departments will be provided a survey to evaluate the students assigned to them upon completion of the project. Students will also complete a survey to provide feedback regarding departments in which they have worked.
