What types of jobs will be offered?
The types of jobs available will depend of the needs of the departments
who submit "jobs/projects" to us for assistance. Because job availability is dependent upon departmental requests, our office has no method to gauge the number or types of projects or how often a student will be selected to participate. These are temporary assignments (usually less than 3 weeks in duration) and are not a method for gaining permanent assignments or, in the case of graduate students . . graduate assistantships, within a department.
We understand that many students would prefer to know an approximate number of assignments for which they may be called. Unfortunately, we have no method for making such a determination. To date, the TigerPool program has received approximately 400 applications from students. In order to solicit students who have submitted applications, a listserv has been developed. As requests for students are received from departments, an e-mail is distributed via the listserv. The e-mail outlines the project and solicits interest in that particular assignment. Interested students respond via e-mail and assignments for interviews are made on a first come, first serve basis. Departments select students based on the interview process.
The application
provides a space for comments and you may certainly indicate
your preferences.
We will do everything possible to match you to your preference but
we can't provide any guarantees. There is no regular listing of available projects since the number and types of positions depend on the requests we receive from University departments.
How am I assigned?
Assignments will be based on your work preferences and the availability of
projects as submitted by University departments. The Office of Human Resources
will do our best to match your preferences to the work assignment and you
can always decline a work assignment in advance.

What if I am assigned to an area/project
that I do not want to do?
The chances of this occurring are small since students respond to an e-mail
indicating their interest. If you are called and do not wish to take a particular
project, you may decline the assignment and the next available student will
be contacted.
What is the pay rate scale?
The rate of pay is based on an established billing rate as approved by the
University. Rates of pay are as follows:
| |
| Office
Related Projects |
$6.75
per hour |
| Lab Projects |
$8.00
per hour |
| Computer
Projects (programming, etc.) |
$8.00

| All Other |
$6.75
- 10.00 per hour |
| Amounts
shown indicate hourly rate to students. An administrative charge
of $1.00 per hour is added to departmental total cost as per
the approved University Billing Rates. |
Determination as to appropriate scale is
made by the Office of Human Resources.
Can I do Work Study and the TigerPool?
Yes, if your schedule allows, you may do both. The TigerPool Program does not
impact Financial Aid. Students participating in the program will file any
earnings on their tax return just as if you performed a job at a local
fast food restaurant.
If I quit one project can I reapply
for another at a later date?
We are looking for dependable students and while you may certainly decline
a project prior to the start date, it would not be advisable to quit a project
once it is begun. As you can understand, this would leave the department with
a problem of completion.
Does my grade point average matter?
Yes and No. While the TigerPool Program is available to all students, we emphasize
and recognize that students are at Clemson for an education. With
this in mind, we encourage students to assess their ability to incorporate
both class and work opportunities.
Can I stay with one employer or do
I have to rotate?
The work assignments will, for the most part, be project type work and will
have a limited time frame in which the work must be completed.
Are
students required to participate in direct deposit?
Yes. It is University policy that ALL new appointments must participate in
direct deposit which means that a checking or savings account will be required
prior to employment.
Where do I pick-up my paycheck?
Students participating in the TigerPool program will be required to
participate in direct deposit. Monies will be directly deposited into the
account for which you specified the appropriate paperwork. If you do not
currently have a bank account, one will be required before you will be
eligible to participate. Please visit http://www.clemson.edu/cubs for more
instructions to view your pay stub online.
How do
time sheets work?
You will receive a time sheet from HR when you complete your intiial paperwork
after being assigned to a job. You and your supervisor will sign off on your
time sheet for the hours that you work. You will turn in timesheets as they are
completed to HR. You may view your pay stub on-line. You will need your University
ID and password in order to do so. To view instructions on viewing the stub,
please visit http://www.clemson.edu/cubs.
As mentioned above, direct deposit is mandatory.
What paperwork
will I need to work?
You must have an application on file with us to be accepted for a position
opening. Once assigned to a job, you will need a driver's license and social
security card or passport and a voided check for direct deposit. Please make
these items available so that when you are assigned, you can be added to payroll
in an efficient manner.
Who is the supervisor of the project
and program?
The Office of Human Resources administers the TigerPool Program. Students will
be notified of individual project supervisors as the assignments are made.
How often do I have to work?
You can determine how many projects you will complete during the semester.
If you are contacted during a period in which your schedule and course
work load will not allow for a TigerPool assignment then you need to so
indicate and we will contact you again.

How do I apply?
We are requesting that ALL interested
students complete the online
application form and forward that form to our office.
Is group work allowed and if so who
chooses the group participants?
While we anticipate that the majority of projects will be individual in nature,
there is the potential for some projects to require group assistance. The composition
of the group will be based on the departmental requirements and our ability
to match (as closely as possible) the students with the skills required by
the department(s).
When is the cut off date to join TigerPool?
There is no formal "cut-off" date for the program. On-line orientation for the TigerPool program is an excellent method for obtaining the basic information regarding the program.
Does the student have to be attending
Clemson or just one of the higher education institutions in the surrounding
area?
The TigerPool program is limited to current Clemson University students only.
See additional restrictions (below) pertaining to Graduate Students.
Can the student have multiple TigerPool
jobs at once?
It is unlikely (though not impossible) that students would be involved in more
than one concurrent assignment. Our priority is to keep in mind that the primary
focus of the student is education.
If I am an International Graduate Student,
how will the program work for me?
According to the information provided by the Clemson University Graduate School,
International graduate students are allowed to work a maximum of 20 hours per
week (total) and must adhere to the INS rules for employment. All graduate
students will be cleared through the Graduate School office prior to acceptance

If I am an American Graduate Student,
how will the program work for me?
According to the information provided by the Clemson University Graduate School,
American graduate students are allowed to work a maximum of 30 hours per week
(total). Additionally, students on graduate assistantships must obtain permission
to work in the program from the primary employing department. All graduate
students will be cleared through the Graduate School office prior to acceptance
for employment. |
