Working at Clemson University: Basics

Foreign national students, faculty, researchers, and staff who plan to work at the university must have the following original documentation and must meet the following eligibity requirements:

  1. An original signed U.S. social security card.  If you do not currently have a Social Security Card, please read these instructions.
  2. Original documents to establish identity and employment eligibility in the U.S.A. To maintain employment eligibility, your  original employment eligibility documents must be current and must not have expired. If you receive either a renewal or an extension of your employment eligibility documents, you must update your employment eligibility verification to continue to work. See the Procedures section below.
  3. Foreign national students must be enrolled full time and maintaining valid visa status. A maximum of 20 hours work per week is allowed while school is in session. This is inclusive of all university departments.

Procedures:

  1. Please complete the international employment form package prior to coming to the office and bring it along with all of your original immigration documents to establish identity and employment eligibility as well as an original signed U.S. social security card. If you do not have a social security card, please read these instructions.
  2. Before starting work, you will meet with the Director of International Employment & Non Resident Alien Taxation, located in E-301 Martin Hall. You will be required to meet all employment and federal taxation requirements.
  3. The department where you will be working will be notified of your employment status and related information. The department in which you work is responsible for your pay.
