Know the rules for football weekend parking

Bookmark and Share

When the Tigers play football and Clemson University welcomes thousands of fans to campus, concessions must be made to accommodate our game-day environment.

The University encourages students, faculty and staff to become familiar with parking regulations in effect on football weekends and make plans in advance. This could help you avoid frustrating situations and costly violations.

Key Points

—  Parking regulations for home football games supersede all other parking regulations.

—  Parking regulations for home football games will be enforced 12 hours before the kickoff time of each game.

—  Entrance into IPTAY parking areas on game days is controlled by the S.C. Highway Patrol.

—  Only vehicles with a valid IPTAY parking permit will be allowed to enter, drive through or park in IPTAY parking areas.

—  Parking lots open at 6 a.m. for noon and 1 p.m. games and at 8 a.m. for all other kickoff times.

—  Employees leaving personal vehicles on campus while traveling should be familiar with the football schedule to avoid parking in reserved lots on game days and being towed.

—  All federal, state and university vehicles are to be moved to an east campus perimeter parking lot 12 hours prior to all home varsity football games.

—  A current map of how parking is allocated on game days is available online.

Parking restrictions after the game

Parked cars must be vacated from the following areas within two hours of the conclusion of the game:

  • Walker Golf Course practice range off Old Stadium Road
  • Areas adjacent to aquaculture and fisheries ponds in the Calhoun Bottoms

Resident students who move their vehicles to P-1 and Kite Hill must vacate these areas and return their vehicles to resident-student lots by noon on Sundays following home games.

Where can students park?

Residence hall students who are required to relocate their cars may park at the P-1 lot (across from the Fire Department) on McMillan Road. If the P-1 lot fills, overflow parking is permitted on the grass at Kite Hill and in parking lot C-1 near the Fire Department.  All spaces in R-1 (The Pit), R-2, and R-3 parking lots must be vacated.

Students may move their cars beginning Friday evening and continuing through the weekend. All cars must be cleared from reserved IPTAY lots by the time towing begins -- 12-hours prior to the announced kick-off time of the game.

Resident students who move their vehicles to P-1 and Kite Hill must vacate these areas and return their vehicles to resident-student lots by noon on Sundays following home games.

Transportation is available to assist students who must relocate their cars for football games.

Clemson Area Transit’s TIGER Route will run every 30 minutes to provide transportation to both the east and west sides of campus during these service hours:
Friday —  5 p.m.- 3 a.m.
Saturday — 2 hours after game’s end until 3 a.m. Sunday

More information on TIGER Route bus stops.

CAT will also operate shuttles at 15-minute intervals with stops at P-1, Kite Hill, C-1, Hendrix Student Center, east library circle and the Dillard Building on Klugh Avenue (Shoeboxes, Stadium Suites, McCabe, Holmes), during the following service hours:
Friday — 6 p.m. until midnight
Saturday — 2 hours after game’s end until midnight
Sunday — 9 a.m. until noon

Where can't I park?

All vehicles parked in lots and numbered spaces reserved for football parking must be moved no later than 12 hours prior to the start of home games.

East Campus Reserved Parking

—  R-1 Resident lot: The entire lot is reserved. All spaces, including those without Tiger Paw markings, must be vacated 12 hours prior to kickoff. In previous years when only a portion of this lot was used for football parking, the reserved spaces were marked with orange Tiger Paws; however, the Paws have no relevance in this year’s parking plan. (Residence hall students displaced from their usual parking areas may move their vehicles to P-1 parking lot, across from the fire department, or to Kite Hill.

—  Employee lot: E-1

—  Employee lot: E-6 (behind Sikes Hall)

—  Parkway Drive (from lot E-6, behind Sikes Hall, and Cherry Road)

West Campus Reserved Parking

—  Resident lots: R-2, R-3 (See information above on alternate parking for relocating students.)

Where can fans without parking placards park?

Clemson has 15,000 parking spaces that are assigned to IPTAY donors each year — that means a large contingent of fans must find parking elsewhere.

If you are coming to Clemson for the football games and don't have an IPTAY assigned space, you are encouraged to read the parking information.

General public parking for game-day visitors is available:

—  Off Perimeter Road, east of Cherry Road
—  Off S.C. Highway 93, west of campus

Check out the football parking map.

Paid parking is also available at the Clemson University Beach property on S.C. 93 and at various church and business lots in downtown Clemson.

Where can visiting parents park?

Clemson welcomes parents of students to visit campus whenever possible and makes a special parking permit available to them. However, these "Proud Tiger Parent" permits are subject to the same restrictions as employee and student permits and are not valid in reserved/restricted spaces on game day or any other day.

These permits allow visiting parents of Clemson students to park in any legal space on campus except for restricted/reserved spaces. On game days, that means that if a vehicle bearing a parent permit is left in a lot reserved for football within 12 hours of kickoff, it will be towed at the owner's expense.

General public parking for game-day visitors is available:

—  Off Perimeter Road, east of Cherry Road
—  Off S.C. Highway 93, west of campus

Check out the football parking map.

Paid parking is also available at the Clemson YMCA on S.C. 93 and at various church and business lots in downtown Clemson.

Where can employees park?

These areas will be designated for employees only on days of home football games. This parking will be available for Aramark, facilities and other university employees who must work on game days. Vehicles entering and parking in these areas must display a valid employee parking permit:

—  Lot E-6 — only spaces adjacent to Long Hall; access only via Calhoun Drive at Sikes Hall

—  Lot E-15, east of R.M. Cooper Library

—  Barre Hall visitor parking in front

—  McMillan Road, from Cherry Road intersection at Hendrix Student Center to the east library lot, vehicles must be parked in a marked space (between two lines)
