Online Collections

The online collections on this web site represent only a small portion of the total holdings of Special Collections. Collections have been chosen for inclusion on the web site on the basis of significance, research use, freedom from copyright or other restrictions, preservation and general interest.

Digitization requires more than just scanning material--it requires editing for completeness and legibility, extensive indexing to make the images useful for research and strategies for the preservation of the digital image. All of this takes time, staff and funding. Therefore, while we are committed to increasing the number of digitized collections we can offer access to over the Internet, it will take some time to put a significant portion of the collections we hold online. It is also unlikely that we will be able to digitize all of our collections in the foreseeable future.
