CLEMSON — Clemson University’s Office of Public Affairs was recognized by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District III with the Grand Award in Institutional Relations Programs at the CASE III conference in Tampa, Fla.

Clemson’s Office of Public Affairs is comprised of Marketing Services, Creative Services and Media Relations and is responsible for helping university departments generate awareness of their programs, developing marketing campaigns for special events, generating media coverage, developing promotional materials and managing internal communication and external media coverage during emergency situations.

“This award is a tribute to the faculty, staff and students who have given us such a great story to tell, and to the creative and hard-working staff members in Public Affairs who do a great job of telling it,” said Chief Public Affairs Officer Cathy Sams.

Clemson received five other awards at the banquet:

  • Graphic designers in Clemson’s creative services office — Dale Cochran, Cheryl DeSellier, Christine Prado, Judy Morrison and Alex Garcia — and Creative Services Director David Dryden were recognized with a Special Merit Award in Graphic Identity Programs for their work to establish a stronger graphic identity for the university.
  • The book “Thomas Green Clemson,” a biography of the university’s founder, received a Special Merit Award in Institutional Publications. The book was edited by English professor Alma Bennett and published by the Clemson University Digital Press.
  • In the Design for Print category, Clemson’s student affairs publications office received an Award of Excellence for its division’s holiday card, and Dryden received a Special Merit Award for the design of the book jacket for “Thomas Green Clemson.”
  • Photographer Patrick Wright received a Special Merit Award in Photography for his photo of “The Wall That Heals,” a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans War Memorial that came to campus in 2008.
  • In the Slide and Multimedia Programs category, Clemson received a Special Merit Award for the program “The One Clemson Decade,” a video celebrating the progress and achievements Clemson has made in the past 10 years. The video was created by Sams, Dryden, Wright, photographer Craig Mahaffey and photographic services coordinator Cindy Gosey.
