CLEMSON — Clemson marketing professor Charles Duke has been named 2010 Educator of the Year by the Marketing Educators' Association.

The association is the premier educational group for marketing and publishes the Journal of Marketing Education. Duke received the award for his excellence in teaching marketing topics, marketing research and marketing education research.

“Dr. Duke does an excellent job representing the university and the department in the (association),” said Greg Pickett, chairman of Clemson’s marketing department. “He has passion for and commitment to his work in educating students and developing best practices in the discipline.”

Duke will receive his award in April at the organization’s annual conference in Seattle.

Duke is honored to be recognized, but said he is just doing his job.

“This is what we do as educators,” Duke said. “We do what is right without expecting any award.”

Duke came to Clemson in 1989 after earning his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Arlington. Prior to entering higher education he worked as an analyst and manager in product services engineering, strategic and financial planning and economic forecasting. Since coming to Clemson he has focused on teaching and education, curriculum development and undergraduate advising.
