CLEMSON — Clemson University student Sarah Edison will direct the Clemson Players production of "Betrayal" Tuesday through Sunday, April 13-18, at the Brooks Center for the Performing Arts.
A junior performing arts major from North Augusta, S.C., Edison is consumed with details about lighting, costumes, blocking and dialogue in between classes.
“This is a big opportunity, and I want to make the most of it," she said. “As the director, it’s ultimately my responsibility, but I’m working with a cast and crew that has lots of experience. Their knowledge is invaluable.”
Written by award-winning English playwright Harold Pinter, the drama follows a seven-year adulterous affair between Emma and Jerry through a series of flashbacks chronicling their relationship. As the play moves backward in time, little lies and oblique remarks reveal their true meaning.
“‘Betrayal’ shows how dishonesty and deceit can destroy from the inside out,” said Edison.
“Sarah has worked hard and earned the privilege of directing a full-length play for the Clemson Players season,” said Chip Egan, Edison’s faculty adviser and dean of the College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities. “She has shown great initiative by taking multiple directing classes and realizing several projects of her own. She has really demonstrated her advanced capabilities and potential.”
The Clemson University production will be presented in the Brooks Center’s intimate Bellamy Theatre at 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, April 13-17, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 18. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets and information are available at www.clemson.edu/Brooks or by calling the box office at 864-656-7787 from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
