CLEMSON — Students at Clemson University will lace up their running shoes to raise money for earthquake victims in Haiti during Hustle for Haiti, a certified 5K walk/run at noon Saturday, April 10, at the South Carolina Botanical Garden.
Proceeds from the race will go to Direct Relief International, an organization working to provide medical assistance in Haiti since the earthquake in January.
Registration the day of the race is $20 and will take place from 8 to 11 a.m.
The race is being organized by the resident assistants in the Lightsey Bridge on-campus apartment complex. Katey Buechler, an organizer of the event, said the event started as a fundraiser just for the Lightsey Bridge community, but quickly grew from there.
“I thought about the number of students and the amount of brainpower that we have at Clemson and thought if we all got together, we could make a difference,” said Buechler, a senior from Greenville majoring in communication studies. “Clemson students as a whole are all very gifted and blessed with what we have. I think that the only way to be truly thankful for the blessings that you have is to give back.”
