Clemson narrows search for new research vice president

CLEMSON — Five finalists for Clemson University’s vice president for research will visit the campus in the next two weeks for meetings and interviews, including an open forum.

John Ballato, Clemson’s associate vice president for research and economic development and director of the Center for Optical Materials Science and Engineering (COMSET), is interviewing today and tomorrow. He will participate in an open forum at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, in Self Auditorium, Strom Thurmond Institute.

Robert T. McGrath, deputy lab director for science and technology at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Colorado and former senior vice president for research at The Ohio State University, will visit campus April 19-20.

Gerald Sonnenfeld, vice president for research and professor of biological sciences at Binghamton University, State University of New York, will visit April 21-22.

Randy K. Avent, chief scientist in the Office of Basic Research, Office of the Secretary of Defense, located at Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Lincoln Laboratory, will visit April 26-27.

Robert A. Scott, associate vice president for research and former chairman of the chemistry department at the University of Georgia, will visit April 28-29.
