CLEMSON — Clemson University’s Board of Visitors has recognized Steve Crump of Anderson, associate comptroller in the university’s financial affairs office, with its Service Award.

The award is given to non-faculty employees of the university who have supported students and the goals of the university in an exemplary and sustained manner.

Crump, who graduated from Clemson in 1978 with a political science degree, has worked at Clemson since 1990. In addition to his duties as associate comptroller, he is secretary-treasurer for the Clemson Research Facilities Corp. and the Clemson University Continuing Education Complex Corp. He is a licensed certified public Accountant in South Carolina.

Prior to taking on the role of associate comptroller in 1992, he worked first as a senior accountant and then director of accounting.

Crump is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants, the National Association of College and University Business Officers, the Southern Association of College and University Business Officers, the Government Finance Officers Association of South Carolina and the South Carolina Higher Education Controllers Group.

Crump is active in the Anderson community. He is co-founder and former board member for the Good Neighbor Cupboard Food Bank in Anderson, former treasurer of Anderson County Habitat for Humanity and former vice president of the Anderson County Literacy Association.

"Steve is really the unsung hero of the finance team,” said nominator Brett Dalton, Clemson’s chief financial officer. “His contributions to Clemson are extraordinary, and he does it quietly and calmly behind the scenes. His tireless devotion and hard work combined with his unparalleled level of experience and competence have benefitted Clemson and the community for more than 20 years. Steve is the picture of ‘service’ and is most deserving of this recognition."
