Clemson Alumni Association elects new officers, board members

CLEMSON — James A. “Jimmy” Kimbell III of Anderson takes the reins as the president of the Clemson Alumni Association July 1. Ann Harvin Whetstone Hunter of Greenwood will be the president-elect. Both will serve two-year terms.

Kimbell is president and chief executive officer of the Bank of Anderson. He received his bachelor’s degree in finance from Clemson in 1987 and also has earned diplomas from the National Commercial Lending School at the University of Oklahoma and the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Pennsylvania.

Kimbell, a Clemson native, is director of Innovate Anderson and a member of the Rotary Club of Anderson. He is an IPTAY member and was on the previous Alumni National Council. Kimbell has chaired multiple committees, including the honors and awards committee, for the Clemson Alumni Association board of directors. He and his wife, Amy, have two children and are members of St. John’s United Methodist Church.

Prior to moving to Anderson, Kimbell and his family lived in Murrells Inlet, where he was president of the Surfside Area Rotary Club, council chairman at Belin Memorial United Methodist Church, director and legislative policy chairman of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and director of the Wachesaw Plantation Club. He also was an active member of the Grand Strand Clemson Club.

Hunter, a native of St. Matthews, graduated from Clemson in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree and in 1982 with a master’s degree, both in chemical engineering. After working for Union Carbide in Greenville, she became a homemaker after the birth of her daughter, Rebecca. She describes herself as a “full-time mom and a full-time volunteer.”

Hunter has volunteered in many positions in the Greenwood community and with Clemson University. She was in the PTO for her daughter’s schools, serving as president and in other leadership positions, and was recognized twice by Greenwood High School as Volunteer of the Year. She has been a Girl Scout leader for more than 20 years, is a deacon at the Greenwood Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, a member of the Greenwood Woman’s Club and is past-president of Greenwood’s Danse De Noel Assembly.

In 2009, the Clemson Alumni Association named Hunter Volunteer of the Year. She is the chairwoman of the reunion and special events committee for the alumni board of directors. She has been on the Women’s Alumni Council and has been an IPTAY representative for 12 years. She is on the board of directors for the Greenwood Clemson Club and is in her 14^th year as the club’s treasurer. She and her husband, Wilson, who also is a Clemson alumnus, help host receptions for high school students interested in attending Clemson.

The alumni association’s board of directors elected four new members to serve three-year terms:

• Janine Anthony Bowen of Stone Mountain, Ga., Class of 1989, is an attorney and partner with McKenna Long and Aldridge LLP in Atlanta. Bowen has been on the board of directors for the Atlanta Clemson Club, the Atlanta Clemson Black Alumni Council and the National Clemson Black Alumni Council.
• Danny E. Gregg of Clemson, Class of 1971, is a financial adviser for Merrill Lynch. Gregg was active in the Columbia and Charleston Clemson clubs before moving to Clemson and now is a member and past president of the Fort Hill Clemson Club. He has been on the Alumni National Council as chairman of several committees.
• Harry G. Moore Jr. of Richmond, Va., Class of 1970, is vice president of account services for WForR Inc. Moore is president of the Richmond Clemson Club.
• Lynn West of Charleston, Class of 1984, a program coordinator at the Medical University of South Carolina. West was president of the Charleston County Clemson Club and chairwoman of the Clemson Women’s Alumni Council. She has been on the Alumni National Council and is a member of Clemson in the Lowcountry. She was named the Clemson Alumni Association Volunteer of the Year in 2004.

The alumni board has 22 members and is the governing body for the Clemson Alumni Association. Primary responsibilities of the board include general oversight of the programs and initiatives of the Clemson Alumni Association, financial audit and review, creation of governing policies and strategic planning.
