CLEMSON – Clemson University has named Chuck Knepfle director of financial aid.
Knepfle will begin work at Clemson on Aug. 9, succeeding Marvin Carmichael, who served as director since 1975 and now is chief of staff and assistant to university President James F. Barker.
Knepfle comes to Clemson from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he has been director of student financial assistance since 2001.
“I am very excited to arrive on campus at the end of the summer,” Knepfle said. “Coming from an institution which, like Clemson, is a selective public school, I feel that I can bring relevant experience to an office that is already meeting the mission and goals for the university.”
Janice Murdoch, dean of undergraduate studies at Clemson, said Knepfle’s experience and commitment will fit well with the student-centered focus of the university’s financial aid office, as well as other offices that are among the first to have interaction with students.
“Undergraduate studies, admissions, registration and student receivables work as a team with the financial aid office, and we are all looking forward to collaborating with Chuck to serve students better,” Murdoch said.
Knepfle began his career in higher education in 1992 at Miami University as coordinator for computer operations for the admissions office, and in 1995 was named assistant director for computer operations. In 1996 he began his work in the financial aid office at Miami as associate director for systems and operations. In 2006 he was named assistant provost in addition to his responsibilities as director of student financial assistance.
“Providing excellent customer service is critical for staff in our profession, and I have worked hard over the years to make sure that students have that experience when we work with them,” he said. “I hope to continue at Clemson the student-first environment and financial aid processes that already exist.”
Knepfle has a degree in systems analysis and an MBA in management from Miami University. He serves on the executive board for the National Direct Student Loan Coalition and is a peer reviewer for the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators.
