CLEMSON — David Hartmann, an award-winning scenic designer and Clemson University theater professor, has been appointed interim chairman of the performing arts department. The department has 50 full-time and part-time faculty and staff members.
A member of the Clemson faculty since 1990, Hartmann has a wealth of design experience, having worked on nearly 100 productions throughout the United States. He recently received the 2010 Meritorious Achievement Award in Set Design from the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival for his set design for the Clemson Players’ production of “RENT.”
Hartmann has been lighting designer, scenic artists/painter, production manager and technical director on numerous plays. He taught classes in stage and lighting design, theater appreciation, stagecraft and introductory performing arts classes.
Hartmann received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theater design from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and a Master of Fine Arts in theater design from the University of Minnesota.
