Clemson’s Kate Hawkins named editor of ‘Communication Currents’

CLEMSON — The head of Clemson University’s communication studies program has been named editor of “Communication Currents,” a publication of the National Communication Association.  

Kate Hawkins, professor and chairwoman of communication studies, will publish her first issue Sunday, Aug. 1.

Hawkins teaches mainly in the areas of group communication, health communication, communication theory and research methods. Her recent research examines how media affect the choices young people make about their health and fitness.

The National Communication Association is the largest academic association for those who conduct research in communication. Researchers, educators and professionals work to understand and improve all forms of human communication. It has more than 8,000 members in more than 20 countries.

The communication studies department cultivates graduate and undergraduate students with the knowledge and critical-thinking skills necessary to succeed not only in a professional or advanced academic environment, but also in the larger society as engaged global citizens.
