CLEMSON — Clemson University ranks 23rd among public institutions in the nation, according to U.S.News & World Report’s annual guide to “America’s Best Colleges,” and earns national recognition for its commitment to undergraduate education and student success.

Clemson is ranked 12th among all national doctoral universities, both public and private, for its commitment to undergraduate teaching.

“We’re extremely pleased that Clemson continues to be ranked among the nation’s top 25 public universities. It is a tribute to the quality of the educational experience we provide and the hard work of our faculty, staff and students, especially in difficult times,” said Clemson President James F. Barker.

Clemson is identified as a top school in a number of categories this year: Writing in the Disciplines, Learning Communities and Up-and-Coming National University.

The Writing in the Disciplines list highlights outstanding academic programs commonly linked to student success. Clemson consistently receives recognition for making writing a priority at all levels of instruction and across the curriculum.

Clemson appears in the Learning Communities list. In learning communities, students typically take two or more linked courses as a group and get to know one another and their professors well.

This is the third year Clemson has appeared on the Up-and-Coming schools list, ranking 9th. According to the magazine, the Up and Coming list highlights schools that are making strides in quality improvements that earned them the most votes from other college administrators.

“Being recognized as one of the top universities in the nation helps us compete for top students and enhances the value of the Clemson degree. That’s one reason interest in Clemson continues to grow. Students and their families recognize Clemson’s continued commitment to a quality education,” said Robert Barkley, director of undergraduate admissions.

Highlights of the college rankings will be published in the September issue of U.S.News & World Report, available on newsstands Aug. 31. The 2011 Best Colleges guidebook will be on newsstands Aug. 24.
