FLORENCE — Clemson’s Pee Dee Research and Education Center will host the 2010 South Carolina BioEnergy Summit from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7.

This year’s summit, which is free and open to the public, is hosted with the S.C. Biomass Council and S.C. Energy Office.

Presentations and roundtable discussions will include biofeedstock production and utilization, technical issues facing biomass-to-energy projects and expanding the biofuels market.

Peter D. Beattie, former premier of Queensland, Australia, who joined Clemson in August as an adviser and guest lecturer on global economic development strategies, will discuss international export opportunities for alternative energy.

Joe James from the Corporation for Economic Opportunity will address issues related to the underserved communities in South Carolina with a discussion on the “Greening of Black America.”

Register for the summit by e-mailing Clemson’s Jim Frederick at jfrdrck@clemson.edu.

Clemson’s Pee Dee center is at 2200 Pocket Road in Florence, just a few miles from Interstate 95.
