CLEMSON — The executive director of Clemson University’s Charles H. Houston Center has been appointed to the board of advisers for the National Education Finance Conference.

Along with running the Charles H. Houston Center for the Study of the Black Experience in Education, Lamont A. Flowers is a Distinguished Professor of Educational Leadership in the Eugene T. Moore School of Education.

The National Education Finance Conference provides a forum focused on school finance to enhance education. The conference provides a venue for collaboration among legislators, educators, professional organizations and researchers concerned with the equity, adequacy and efficiency concepts that affect education finance.

“Given the current and evolving economic context impacting the American educational system, it has become extremely important for researchers and professionals who study and manage funding models to understand the best practices and ideas that enable us to deliver quality education,” Flowers said. “It’s my privilege to serve the National Education Finance Conference.”

Flowers has a bachelor's degree in accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University. He also received a master's degree in social studies education and a doctorate in higher education from the University of Iowa. He has authored or co-authored 82 scholarly publications about the educational experiences and outcomes of African Americans from pre-kindergarten through college and diversity issues in education, as well as organizational and leadership issues in education.

The Charles H. Houston Center for the Study of the Black Experience in Education, established in 1988, is the only research center housed at one of the nation's top research universities that was created to disseminate empirical information and address issues pertaining to the educational experiences and outcomes of African Americans at all levels of the educational system.
