CLEMSON — Robert Hewitt, an associate professor of landscape architecture at Clemson University, has been selected to serve as a national representative and as a member of three committees for national and state chapters of the American Society of Landscape Architecture (ASLA).
He will serve as the ASLA representative to the International Green Construction Code Committee.
“The committee is charged with developing a model building code addressing green building design and performance for new and existing commercial buildings for all cities and building jurisdictions in the United States,” Hewitt explained.
Additionally, he was selected as a member of the national ASLA Professional Practice Committee and the national ASLA Emerging Professionals Committee.
The Professional Practice Committee provides landscape architects with the most effective professional practice tools to enrich their knowledge and, in turn, enhance the impact and viability of the profession, Hewitt noted.
The ASLA Emerging Professional Committee advises and directs membership for the organization, promotes the benefits of the organization, and promotes recruitment of members. The committee also fosters communication among emerging professional groups, such as student affiliates and associate chapters.
Hewitt also received recognition as a member of the Executive Committee of the South Carolina Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects. Elected by the state association, Hewitt will serve on the committee that is the administrative branch for the state. Functions of the committee include governance, chapter operations and planning for such chapter-sponsored events as the annual convention.
