CLEMSON — Renovations at the Pickens County shotgun range in the Clemson University Experimental Forest by the university’s parks, recreation and tourism department will enhance safety and help meet demands of increased enrollment in leisure skills shooting courses.
The improvements, funded by leisure skills course lab fees, include two new skeet-trap combo fields and a 100-yard rifle range.
“The range will be used primarily as an educational facility for students in leisure skills courses at the university. The 12 classes we offer fill the first day. In coming years, we hope to offer as many as 30 courses,” said Dan Anderson, director of leisure skills.
Leisure skills courses using the range include men’s and women’s shotgun and riflery. Anderson says students in archery courses and a new Clemson Shotgun Club will expand the use of the range.
