CLEMSON — The College Band Directors National Association has again recognized the Clemson University Tiger Band, which for the second time was chosen to participate in the halftime video presentation at the association’s national biennial conference.
“Being selected for the second time is almost overwhelming,” said Clemson director of bands Mark Spede. “The students, band staff, administration and athletic department should all be commended for their support. Every day their commitment to excellence makes this achievement possible.”
The band was selected for its 2010 halftime program titled "The Spirit of God and Man," which included arrangements of the British hymn “All Creatures of Our God and King” and the finale of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.
The Clemson marching band was among five universities selected from a nationwide pool to present at the conference in Seattle. The other participants are the University of Arkansas, Auburn University, the University of Michigan and Texas State University.
Tiger Band received the same honor in 2007 for its "Music of RENT" show. The band also received regional recognition from the College Band Directors National Association for its 2008 "Guitar Hero" show.
The College Band Directors National Association is a nationwide organization comprised of collegiate music faculty. Its members specialize in the development of new music and teaching, as well as performances in concert halls and athletic facilities.
