Clemson students and faculty, businesses join in language and international trade conference

CLEMSON — A conference on April 6 will bring together business executives and Clemson University faculty and students to explore current issues and opportunities in international business. The theme of the daylong event is “Global Citizenship and the Changing Role of the Corporation.”

The Language and International Trade Conference will take place at the Hendrix Student Center at Clemson University. All of the sessions will be free and open to the public. Prior registration is required only for roundtable discussions that begin at 2:30 p.m.

At 10:15 a.m. in the Hendrix Center’s McKissick Theatre, Mark Mannella, director of International and New Business Ventures for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, will speak about jobs, business and the concept of global citizenship. Other presentation topics will include language and international trade perspectives on business and cross-cultures and the human and economic prospects for global citizenship and social entrepreneurship.

At 1:15 p.m., a panel discussion on “Promoting Global Citizenship: The Role of Business, Universities, Ethics and Culture” will be led by Clemson faculty and international business leaders.

Business executives from such international corporations as BMW, Nestle Prepared Foods Co. and Michelin North America will join Clemson faculty and students during the conference for roundtable discussions, brainstorming and networking. The program is designed to promote student awareness of international businesses in the region, provide networking opportunities and a forum to exchange ideas, raise awareness and understanding of globalization and to highlight Clemson’s relationship with the business community.

Sponsors include the department of languages; the College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities; the Clemson University Center for China Studies; the College of Business and Behavioral Science; and the Clemson University Humanities Advancement Board.
