CLEMSON – History will come to life April 6 during Clemson University’s Founder’s Day celebration "Looking at our Future through a Glimpse of our Past.”
Activities between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at Fort Hill, the former home of John C. Calhoun and Thomas Green Clemson, will include an open house, tours and an opportunity to “Rock with Tom.” A Thomas Green Clemson actor will stroll the grounds of the historic house and pose for photos with visitors while sitting in rocking chairs on the front porch.
Visitors also can search for artifacts that reflect different aspects of Thomas Green Clemson’s career, family, interests and hobbies during a scavenger hunt.
Clemson students will visit Fort Hill and write thank-you notes to mentors who inspire their experience at the university.
During a 5 p.m. prayer service at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Pendleton, Clemson history professor Abel Bartley will talk about Clemson's life and how the decision he made to create the school still has a major impact today. Bartley was a contributor to the Thomas Green Clemson biography.
Heather Byrd, president of the Women's Alumni Council, will speak about the life of Anna Calhoun Clemson and the Women's Alumni Council work to establish a memorial in her honor on campus.
