Published: April 4, 2011

CLEMSON – The South Carolina Golf Course Ratings Panel has ranked The Walker Course at Clemson University “Best in the Upstate” in its 2011 ranking of state courses.

The 18-hole course is designed to accommodate golfers of all skill levels. The last five holes, including the signature Tiger Paw 17th hole, are along the shores of Hartwell Lake.

“We consider it quite an honor to be recognized by this panel of golf enthusiasts for a second time,” said Brent Jessup, the head golf professional at Walker Course. “This award confirms the continuing diligent work of our staff to provide not only the Clemson faithful, but also all golfers in the Upstate region, with a top-notch golf facility located on the beautiful campus of Clemson University. We hope this recognition will encourage those who have yet to play our course to come and see why we were voted ‘Best in the Upstate.’”

The South Carolina Golf Course Ratings Panel is composed of 125 golf enthusiasts representing a diverse range of occupations, handicaps and backgrounds. The panel's objective is to promote excellence in the state's golf course design and operations through competitive ranking, education and public advocacy. Ranking criteria used in the judging include routing, variety, strategy, equity, memorability, aesthetics and experience. A panelist must have played a course to vote for it.
