CLEMSON — Clemson University psychology professor June Pilcher has been invited to be the Fulbright-Freud Visiting Scholar for 2011-2012 by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board in Washington, D.C., and the Austrian-American Educational Commission in Vienna, Austria.

Pilcher will teach a course at the University of Vienna, establish a new research effort with the Social, Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience Unit at the University of Vienna and work with the Freud Museum.

"Many professors from all over the United States apply for Fulbright Visiting Scholar awards to a variety of countries each year," Pilcher said.

Having been a Fulbright Student Scholar in Munich, Germany, before going to graduate school, Pilcher said that one of her goals for many years has been to apply for a Fulbright Award in Vienna.

"My ultimate goal is to establish relationships with the University of Vienna, the Freud Museum and with research collaborators and students in Vienna," Pilcher said. "My more immediate goals are to complete a new research project that can lead to quality peer-reviewed publications and additional projects in the future and to teach a class that offers students a somewhat different look at how our brain and behavior interacts to create a uniquely human experience for each of us."

Pilcher has been at Clemson since 2001 and is an Alumni Distinguished Professor in the psychology department. Some of her research interests include patient care and occupational health and well-being. She is specifically interested in the effects of stress and fatigue in the work place and in college students.

The Fulbright International Educational Exchange Program is one of the most prestigious international exchange programs in the world. The program is operated by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
