CLEMSON — The Clemson University Climbing Club recently won the Southeast Regional Collegiate Climbing Series for the second year in a row.
Competitors are scored both individually and as a group. A climber’s top four scores throughout the year’s competitions are combined to form his or her personal score, and colleges are scored by combining team members' personal scores.
This year’s individual overall Collegiate Climbing Series winners include junior Steven Hickson of Charlotte in first place and senior Camden Clements of Mount Pleasant in third place in the men’s division, and sophomore Emily Korth of Newton, Ct., in first place and senior Allison Anderson of Greer in third place in the women’s division.
Founded in the spring of 2009, the Clemson University Climbing Club sends a team of students each year to multiple competitions held by the Collegiate Climbing Series. Clemson’s club competes under the southeast regional division and has won the division two years in a row.
For a competition, climbers must complete multiple routes of varying difficulties on climbing walls. While climbing styles may vary, the most popular in competition is bouldering: short, fast climbs performed without ropes or harnesses.
