CLEMSON, S.C. — Rita Penniman of Canton will serve Clemson University's Undergraduate Student Government as executive secretary to the president’s cabinet.
Penniman, a sophomore majoring in special education, was elected to the Undergraduate Student Senate as a representative for the College of Health, Education and Human Development for the 2011-2012 school year. After taking part in the successful campaign for the president-elect and vice president-elect, she resigned the Senate post to take on the executive secretary’s duties.
The Undergraduate Student Senate is made up of 64 students who represent all academic areas and the university's five colleges. Senators draft and vote on amendments, bills and resolutions that impact all areas of student life at Clemson. Senate committees focus on different areas of the Clemson experience, ranging from academic affairs to health and human services.
The Senate works closely with Clemson administrators, faculty, staff and students to accomplish their goals each year.
