CLEMSON — Jennifer Moffitt of Spartanburg received the Norris Medal from Clemson University at the May 13 Commencement. The Norris Medal is given each year to the graduating student who is judged to be the best all-around by the university scholarships and awards committee.
Moffitt received a degree in chemical engineering. She was a Clemson National Scholar, a Barry M. Goldwater Scholar, a Palmetto Fellow, a Dixon Fellow and a student in the Calhoun Honors College. She also received a Presidential Scholarship, a Robert C. Byrd Scholarship and the Eastman Excellence in Chemical Engineering Scholarship.
Moffitt worked as a resident assistant in university housing and was named Outstanding RA Staff of the Year in spring of 2009. She was a member of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society, Campus Crusade for Christ, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Women’s Glee, the Clemson Symphony Orchestra and Women in Science and Engineering. She worked as a student assistant to the provost and held an internship last summer with Eastman Chemical Co.
Moffitt participated in Relay for Life and volunteered to teach science and research to students at R.C. Edwards Middle School in Clemson. She also volunteered to work as a poll manager for Pickens County in two elections.
The Norris Medal was established under the terms of the will of D.K. Norris, a life trustee of Clemson.
