CLEMSON — Jessica Dean of Alvin received the Matt Locke Award for Student Service from Clemson University at May 13 Commencement. Dean received her bachelor’s degree in psychology at the ceremony, graduating with general and departmental honors from the Calhoun Honors College.
Dean was a Clemson National Scholar and a Palmetto Fellow. She also received the Frank A. Burtner Scholarship from the Division of Student Affairs. She was recognized with the Eugene Galluscio Award and the Ernest Jewell Hardesty Moore Award, both from the psychology department, as well as the Outstanding Woman Undergraduate Student Award from the President’s Commission on the Status of Women.
Dean was president of Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honor society and Habitat for Humanity. She served on the board of directors for Mortar Board honor society and Kappa Alpha Theta fraternity and was on the Clemson Philanthropy and Service Council. She also was a member of Psi Chi psychology honor society and Order of Omega leadership honor society.
In 2009, Dean traveled to Guatemala to build houses with Habitat for Humanity’s Global Village Project. She also participated in Relay for Life and worked as a volunteer at Helping Hands and Clemson Downs Retirement Center.
