BLACKVILLE — Just in time for summer, the Clemson University Edisto Research and Education Center will host its annual Watermelon Field Day July 7. The field day is free and open to the public, and includes lunch and watermelon tasting.
Registration begins at 8:45 a.m. and is followed by an indoor classroom session at 9 a.m. in the center’s auditorium.
Topics to be covered include watermelon marketing trends, watermelon breeding, powdery mildew and disease update, and an overview of S.C. Watermelon Board activities.
The tour then heads outside to view field research projects and field trials of 51 watermelon and melon varieties. Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) and Pesticide License credits will be offered.
Following the field tour, lunch and cold watermelons will be served in the auditorium, with an opportunity for further discussion.
