CLEMSON — Michael LeMahieu has been appointed director of the Roy and Marnie Pearce Center for Professional Communication at Clemson University.

Through interdisciplinary workshops, collaborative ventures, sponsored projects and scholarly research, the Pearce Center for Professional Communication promotes excellence in communication across the curriculum and in various media.

LeMahieu has been an assistant professor in the English department since 2005. He has been the department’s director of undergraduate studies and its associate chairman. He received his bachelor’s degree in English and Spanish from Marquette University and his master’s and doctorate in English from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Richard Goodstein, dean of the College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities, said, “I am excited for the Pearce Center to have Mike’s considerable administrative abilities devoted to reinvigorating the mission of the center. Building on the Pearce Center’s past successes, I am confident Mike’s leadership will position the college’s Communication Across the Curriculum initiatives in a central role in the university’s future."

The work of the center has helped win international recognition for Clemson. The Pearce Center was instrumental in Clemson being named TIME Magazine Public College of the Year in 2001. U.S.News & World Report has consistently singled out Clemson’s Writing across the Curriculum initiatives and has named Clemson a top school for “Writing in the Disciplines,” a list that includes Cornell, Duke, Harvard and Princeton universities.
