Piekutowski to lead Clemson Human Resources Office for two-year term

CLEMSON – Michelle Piekutowski of Clemson has been named Interim Chief Human Resources Officer at Clemson University for a two-year term, effective immediately.

Piekutowski has worked in the university’s Office of Human Resources since 1998. She served as a trainer and in several director-level positions until 2008, when she was named Associate Chief Human Resource Officer.

"Michelle has demonstrated that she has the knowledge, judgment and leadership capabilities Clemson needs in its Chief Human Resources Officer,” said Chief Financial Officer Brett Dalton. “She will be responsible for leadership and management of the comprehensive Human Resources Division, including human resource functions across the university, and will lead the implementation of the human resources strategic plan."

Piekutowski earned a bachelor's degree in business education from Western Carolina University and a master’s degree in human resource development from Clemson University. She also is a member of the Human Capital Management Institute and earned certification as a Human Capital Strategist.

At Clemson, she is a member of the President’s Cabinet and the President's Commission on the Status of Women and has been a Staff Senator. In her role as Chief Human Resources Officer, she will serve as a member of the President’s Administrative Council.  She serves on many university and state committees promoting employees’ wellness, safety and quality workplace environment.   

She is a member of local, regional and national units of the Colleges and University Professional Association for Human Resources and the Society of Human Resource Management.

“I am very excited and proud to represent Clemson University in such a critical role,” Piekutowski said. “I appreciate and am encouraged by the support and collaboration that I have received over the past few years and look forward to working with faculty and staff across campus to accomplish the goals in the university’s 2020 Plan.”
