CLEMSON — Work is under way on Memorial Park, an extension of the Scroll of Honor Memorial site at the corner of Fort Hill Street and Williamson Drive at Clemson University.
The park will pay tribute to the thousands of Clemson alumni and friends who have served the state and nation in fields ranging from agriculture to the military.
A project of the Clemson Corps, an alumni group chartered to perpetuate the university’s military heritage, Memorial Park will honor past generations of servant-leaders while challenging emerging leaders to identify how they will contribute.
“For the past 115 years Clemson alumni have honorably served our country — in science, medicine, education, industry, agriculture, government, religion, the military and many other professions," said Ed De Iulio, chairman of the Clemson Corps. "The park will be a tribute to all members of the Clemson family who have served, those who are serving and those who will serve, with the highest level of service and sacrifice represented by those 479 alumni recognized on the Scroll of Honor.”
The park land is being graded now. A walkway will lead to a reflection point overlooking the Scroll of Honor barrow, which lists the names of Clemson alumni killed while in the military. The park is scheduled to be completed in late November. For more information about the park and recognition options, contact Amy Csernak Craft, assistant director of annual giving, at 864-656-1240.
