FLORENCE — Help the Florence/Darlington Stormwater Consortium keep local beaches and waterways clean of trash, debris and pollution during the 2011 Annual Beach Sweep/River Sweep.
Volunteers can join the cleanup from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 17 at Jeffries Creek Park in Florence. For details, contact Terasa Young at 843-661-4800, ext. 113, or terasa@clemson.edu; or Michelle Bailey at michelle@keepflorencebeautiful.org.
With the help of cleanup coordinators called site captains, local volunteers will join thousands of people around the state in one of the largest one-day litter cleanup of beaches and waterways.
The Florence/Darlington Stormwater Consortium, Keep Florence Beautiful and the Pee Dee Group of the Sierra Club are teaming to clean about 55 acres between Edisto Drive and DeBerry Boulevard.
Trash bags and water will be provided. Participants are encouraged to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Volunteers should meet at the parking area on DeBerry Boulevard.
The statewide event is organized by the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium and S.C. Department of Natural Resources.
