CLEMSON — Tamara L. Hemingway has been appointed to the position of export control officer in Clemson University’s Research Division.
Hemingway, who previously served as export control officer at Michigan State University, began work at Clemson on Aug. 8. Reporting to the director of research compliance, she is responsible for the development and administration of the university’s export control program.
“We are delighted to have someone with Tamara Hemingway’s experience and expertise joining us in this important role,” said Tracy Arwood, director of research compliance. “Federal export laws and regulations have an impact on many aspects of the university’s research and teaching activities, from the sharing of information and technical data with foreign nationals to the software installed on university computers taken out of the United States. The export control officer will work with our researchers and administrators to make sure our obligations are met.”
Hemingway earned a law degree at Ohio State University and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biology from Eastern Michigan University. Prior to her position as the export control officer at Michigan State, she served as a technology licensing associate for MSU Technologies. She also has worked as a research associate for Ohio State, where she focused on human cancer genetics.
“I am overwhelmed by the gracious welcome and support I’ve received so far,” Hemingway said. “Clearly, everyone here at Clemson University is committed to continuing to develop an outstanding research program and I look forward to my new role in supporting this effort.”
