Clemson University student receives scholarship from The Bartlett Tree Foundation

Published: September 19, 2011

CLEMSON — Jaime Morin, a senior majoring in horticulture in the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences has been awarded a scholarship from the Bartlett Tree Foundation for her academic excellence in arboriculture. The Bartlett Tree Foundation, a private foundation funded by tree and shrub care provider Bartlett Tree Experts, awards scholarships each year in support of students pursuing arboricultural courses of study.

“Jaime’s academic excellence and passion for trees makes her ideally suited to receive this scholarship. She’s always looking for new challenges and learning opportunities and excels in everything she does,” said Bob Polomski, an instructor in the School of Agricultural, Forestry and Environmental Science. “We’re thrilled to work with the Bartlett Tree Foundation in providing her with this scholarship.”

Ms. Morin is in her last semester of earning a four-year degree in horticulture and hopes to work in the tree-care industry. She spent this past summer interning at the Arnold Arboretum — the storied arboretum affiliated with Harvard University — where she learned the science and management of trees. A highlight of her internship was climbing to the top of a noble fir and admiring the Boston skyline 100 feet above the ground.

To be eligible for a scholarship from The Bartlett Tree Foundation, a student must be actively enrolled in a course of study that leads to a degree or diploma in arboriculture, forestry, urban forestry, horticulture, plant pathology, botany or a closely related discipline. Students must maintain a sufficient grade-point average and demonstrate good character and worth of recognition.

“I can’t think of a better way to support the arboricultural industry than to assist students like Jaime Morin in pursuing their education,” said Robert Bartlett Jr., chairman of Bartlett Tree Experts and a board member of the foundation. “Through the Bartlett Tree Foundation, we can help encourage and grow the future caretakers of our nation’s plants and forests.”
