Clemson’s Edisto center to host evening field day

BLACKVILLE — Cotton and soybeans will be the focus of an evening field day Oct. 4 at the Clemson University Edisto Research and Education Center.

The event, which is free and open to the public and includes dinner, begins with sign-in at 4 p.m.

Tours of the center’s research will include discussion on cotton and soybean variety tests, weed and insect management in row crops, planting dates for soybeans and sensor-based irrigation in cotton.

Dinner follows the tours and will feature remarks by Steven Meadows, interim chief operating officer of Clemson Extension; Larry McKenzie, S.C. Farm Bureau; and Hugh Weathers, S.C. Commissioner of Agriculture.

Also available will be experts from the Clemson University Soil Testing and Nematode laboratories, Pesticide Regulatory Services, S.C. Crop Improvement Association, S.C. Corn/Soybean Association and the S.C. Soybean and Cotton boards.

The field day is schedule to finish at 7:30 p.m.
