Skelton recognized by Clemson Board of Visitors

CLEMSON — The Clemson University Board of Visitors presented its inaugural Legislative Leadership Award to state Rep. B.R. Skelton of Pickens County.

Established by the Legislative Issues Committee of the Board of Visitors, the Legislative Leadership Award recognizes a history of service, legislative support and leadership, and measurable and significant contributions to the advancement of higher education and Clemson University.

Skelton, a Clemson-area native, earned a bachelor’s degree from Clemson in 1956 and a master’s from Clemson in 1958. He earned a Ph.D. from Duke University in 1964. He is a professor emeritus of economics at Clemson. 

First elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives in 2003, Skelton is on the House Ways and Means Committee. He previously was chairman of the Higher Education Subcommittee of the House Education and Public Works Committee.

Skelton and his wife, Vickie, have four children.

Members of the Board of Visitors support the mission of Clemson University and serve as advocates for the university in their communities. The board is a vocal supporter of public and private funding for higher education.
