CLEMSON, S.C. — A member of and past chairwoman of the advisory council of the International Center for Academic Integrity at Clemson University will be awarded the University of Guelph Alumni Medal of Achievement.

Tricia Bertram Gallant will receive the 2011 award, which recognizes University of Guelph graduates of the last 15 years who have “achieved excellence through contributions to country, community, profession, or the world of arts and letters.”

Betram Gallant, the academic integrity coordinator for the University of California, San Diego, has taught leadership and higher education administration at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. She is past chairman of the Center for Academic Integrity’s advisory council and has been an active member more than five years.

Her work encourages higher education faculty and administrators to reconsider student academic misconduct to be beyond “students behaving badly” to a systematic and complex issue shaped by a multitude of organizational, institutional and societal factors.

Bertram Gallant spearheads the student-run “AIM: Academic Integrity Matters” nonprofit at UC San Diego to educate high school and college students, as well as parents, on the importance of academic integrity. She is a prolific conference presenter, keynote speaker and the editor, author and co-author of three books: “Creating the Ethical Academy: A Systems Approach to Understanding Misconduct and Empowering Change,” “Academic Integrity in the Twenty-First Century: A Teaching and Learning Imperative” and “Cheating in School: What We Know and What We Can Do.”

She will receive the Alumni Medal of Achievement in March at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada, at an event honoring Awards of Excellence recipients.
