CLEMSON — Cantus, one of America’s premier male vocal ensembles, visits Clemson's Brooks Center for the Performing Arts at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, to present the program “On the Shoulders of Giants,” a tribute to artists who have inspired them.
Hailing from Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minn., Cantus is known for its adventurous programming spanning many periods and genres, including chant, Renaissance music, contemporary works, art song, folk, spirituals, world music and pop.
Aside from busy tour seasons and subscription concerts in the group's hometowns, Cantus is a non-profit organization that is an active and passionate proponent of music education. The group annually works with more than 10,000 young people from all over the country in activities ranging from master classes to festivals and collaborations. Cantus recently was honored with the 2011 Chorus America Education Outreach award, presented to ensembles that exemplify the true spirit of excellent educational outreach efforts.
The Brooks performance will include music ranging from Mendelssohn to an African-American spiritual to Michael Jackson, all in one evening. Each piece has been selected to honor and pay tribute to artists who inspired Cantus and continue to inspire new generations of musicians.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students and can be purchased online, in person or by phone. Visit www.clemson.edu/Brooks or call the Box Office at 864-656-7787 from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday–Friday for more information.
