CLEMSON — The FIRST Generation Success Program is giving Clemson University students, faculty and staff a chance to thank the people who helped them get to where they are today.
On Tuesday, Jan. 31, FIRST will host Clemson Mentor Appreciation Day in partnership with other mentoring programs. There will be two stations from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. — one on the library bridge and one at Cox Plaza outside the University Union — where people can fill out thank-you cards to their mentors. The cards collected will be sent to the mentor or can be delivered by the writer if the mentor is off campus.
Clemson Mentor Appreciation Day is part of National Mentoring Month and is a way for everyone to celebrate all that mentors have done to encourage and guide them.
The FIRST Generation Success Program was created with support from the National Science Foundation to help first-generation college students in the sciences adjust to the college experience by pairing them with successful competent juniors or seniors in a complementary field of study. FIRST plans to expand to serve first-generation students in all academic disciplines in 2012-2013. To learn more, visit http://www.clemson.edu/first.
Other partners in Clemson Mentor Appreciation Day are the Academic Success Center’s Tiger Success program, the Multicultural Center’s Connections Peer Mentoring, PEER (Programs for Educational Enrichment and Retention), T2T (Transfers to Tigers) and WISE (Women in Science and Engineering).
