Published: February 20, 2012

CLEMSON – Arlene Stewart and Dede Norungolo, both in Clemson University’s Student Disability Services, have each been selected to present at two separate international disability conferences.

Stewart, the director of Student Disability Services, will present “It’s All Talk: Communicating Effectively in an LD/ADHD World” this month in Chicago during the Learning Disabilities Association’s (LDA) 49th International Conference. The focus of this workshop will address the components of effective communication and provide an opportunity for participants to experience the barriers that individuals with communication issues face daily.

LDA’s mission is to create opportunities for success for all individuals affected by learning disabilities and to reduce the incidence of learning disabilities in future generations.

Norungolo, a disability specialist with Clemson University, will present “Who Are You Now? The reintegration of brain injury survivors in academia,” during the 35th Annual Association on Higher Education And Disability (AHEAD) Conference to be held in New Orleans, La., July 9-12.

AHEAD is a professional membership organization for individuals involved in the development of policy and in the provision of quality services to meet the needs of persons with disabilities involved in all areas of higher education. There are more than 2,500 members throughout the United States, Canada, England, Australia, Ireland, Northern Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, Sweden, Japan and Greece. AHEAD has formal partnerships with 30 Regional Affiliates and numerous other professional organizations working to advance equity in higher education for people with disabilities.

At Clemson University, Stewart and Norungolo seek to serve students with disabilities to help them gain self-awareness and self-advocacy skills as they pursue their academic and personal goals.
