FIRST FRIDAY GARDEN WALK
Meet with a garden staff member for an unforgettable tour of the garden. Walks are offered the first Friday of every month, but no two outings are the same.
Fee: Free
Time: 9 a.m. (November through March)

GARDEN YOGA
Renee Gahan leads Vinyasa Yoga classes, which are open to all skill levels. Students move through a series of postures focusing on the breath. Attention is paid to proper alignment, with guidance provided to develop poses. For more information, visit clemsonyoga.typepad.com.
Fee: $12 drop-ins, $50 five-class pass ($35 for full-time students), $60 monthly pass

BATHTUB BOTANY
In this fun family program, Garden educators Allison Jones and Kendra Vincent explain amazing ways that people have used plants throughout history and help you make your own soap and hand salve using plant materials to add scent, color and soothing properties. Register at least 3 days in advance.

HUNT CABIN DROP-IN
Step back into the nineteenth century as you enter the historic Hunt Cabin. Join Garden educator Sue Watts and a variety of visiting craftspeople to learn more about life on the South Carolina frontier. Enjoy a roaring fire, listen to tall tales and folk tales, and experience some of the chores and entertainments of the past.

CREATE A NATIVE WOODLAND GARDEN
The plants that grow in our area forests provide a wonderful palette for creating diverse and beautiful woodland gardens using Eastern North American natives. The class includes a variety of species, their characteristics, growth habits and soil requirements.

PLANT A MINIATURE LANDSCAPE
Learn how to choose succulents and other plants to create a pleasing container landscape. The class includes the proper planting mix. You bring a container and choose the plant elements to create your miniature garden. Participants in the Cast In Stone workshop can use their cured containers.

SPICY NORTH AFRICA: MOROCCO
Ginger, turmeric, saffron and cinnamon are the spices that provide intricate depth to this distinctive North African cuisine. Learn about the food and customs of this region as we make, then enjoy, a traditional Moroccan meal.

Join the garden for a St. Patrick’s Day Celebration. Start the day off with a 5K and family fun run and then enjoy flying kites in the Kelly Meadow. Informal programs on recycling and sustainability will be ongoing.

IMPROVE YOUR GARDEN WITH WORMS
Worm castings help your soil maintain a healthy biological environment and increase its ability to retain moisture. Scott Hawke of Carolina Worm Castings will provide information about gardening with worms, show how to set up a home worm bin system and have worms and castings for sale.

BRINGING NATURE HOME
Doug Tallamy’s award-winning book, Bringing Nature Home, makes a compelling case for how important native plants are to supporting native wildlife. A dynamic speaker, he provides an essential voice for the role of insects as crucial components of local food webs. Tallamy is chair of the entomology and wildlife ecology department and director of the Center for Managed Ecosystems at the University of Delaware. His book was awarded the 2008 silver medal by the Garden Writers Association.

GARDEN NATURALIST: BIRDING IN THE GARDEN
Learn to identify, observe, and listen to birds in the Garden with naturalist and interim Garden director Patrick McMillan and Clemson forest wildlife ecologist Drew Lanham. Discover the winter residents and migrants, their habits and foraging strategies. Bring binoculars and field guides, and dress for the weather.

CREATING AN HERB GARDEN
Learn to create a productive herb garden and how to use the herbs you grow. Join Lisa Wagner, education director, to discuss cultivation needs of culinary herbs, how to grow them and how to preserve them for later use.

BIRD NESTS & NATURALLY DYED EGG CENTERPIECES
Learn how to create a beautiful, lasting spring centerpiece. Garden educators Allison Jones and Kendra Vincent teach about plant-derived egg dyes, the art of hand-blown eggs, and how to decorate eggs with leaves and flowers from the garden. Make a ‘bird nest’ to house your egg art, which can be enjoyed for years to come! Children are welcome. Participants must register at least 5 days in advance.

ART GALLERY
Featured artists: Patti Connor-Greene (ceramics) and Jessica Erin Bowers (paintings).
Visit the Fuller Galleries in the Fran Hanson Discovery Center to see a rotating collection of artwork by artisans inspired by the materials, nature and beauty of the Upstate. Up to six artists at a time, all connected to the Upstate area, showcase their work. Artworks ranging from paintings to ceramics, and baskets to photography, are available for sale with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the South Carolina Botanical Garden. The Fran Hanson Discovery Center also houses a permanent display of Elizabeth Belser Fuller’s extensive collection of wildflower and nature paintings.
Gallery Hours: Monday – Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 – 5 p.m.

GARDEN INFORMATION
The South Carolina Botanical Garden is located on the Clemson University campus at the intersection of Highway 76 and Perimeter Road. The Garden encompasses 295 acres of display gardens, nature trails, woodlands and streams, and is open year-round from dawn to dusk, free of charge. The Garden is partially supported by the state of South Carolina via Clemson University, but relies on private funding, memberships and proceeds from educational events to continue operations.
