Golf course development sustainability conference to be at Clemson

Published: March 13, 2012

CLEMSON — Golf S.O.S., a symposium designed to explore the challenges currently facing the golf industry and the master planned communities that have been developed with golf courses as their cores, will be presented at Clemson University in April.

Clemson's Richard H. Pennell Center for Real Estate Development and the Arthur M. Spiro Institute for Entrepreneurial Leadership have teamed up to present the symposium. They hope to highlight strategies that will help create and/or redevelop current developments so they are more sustainable in the future.

Planned for Monday, April 2, at the Madren Conference Center in Clemson, the symposium will feature the National Golf Foundation's president, Joe Beditz, who will speak on "The State of Golf," and Bobby Weed, CEO of Bobby Weed Golf Design, on “Repurposing for Sustainable Golf Course Development.”

There will be a panel discussion on “Charting a Course for Sustainable Development” that includes A.J. "Buddy" Thompson, co-founder of The Reserve at Lake Keowee, and John Reed of Reed Development in Hilton Head (Colleton River, Belfair, Berkeley Hall).

Tickets are $35 and include a reception afterward. For more information or to register, please visit www.clemson.edu/cred.
